Mother Tongue Languages

The Mother Tongue Languages Department of TMJC aims to realise the full potential of students’ ability in their mother tongue. Through the academic and enrichment programmes, the Mother Tongue curricular hopes to nurture active learners and proficient users of mother tongue languages, at the same time enabling our students the skills to plug into a globalised world while linking to their heritage and Asian roots.

The majority of students required to take Mother Tongue Languages will do H1 MTL, which is designed to prepare students to meet local university entry criteria at their best ability while seeing the relevance of the languages to their lives. TMJC also offers Mother Tongue Language and Literature (H2) and General Studies in Chinese (H1) to students with higher language proficiency and a deep interest in literature or current affairs. Besides, TMJC is also a Ministry of Education (MOE) Language Elective Programme (LEP) Centre for Malay. Students who are enrolled in the Malay Language Elective Programme (MLEP) will take Malay Language and Literature at H2 level MOE and participate in an array of MOE and school organised enrichment activities.
